What Are the Best Escape Rooms in Salinas and Monterey?

If you’re a fan of puzzles, games, mind twisters, and mysteries, then an escape room may be the best place for you to test your skills and see how fast you are on your feet. And if you’re already a fan of escape rooms and are itching to get back into one, you’re in luck!

With business re-opening plans in place for mid-June 2020, Monterey County’s three exciting escape rooms are gearing up to open again, albeit with strict sanitary and social distancing plans in place. How do you social distance in an escape room? By doing it with people you’ve been quarantining with or close friends and family you have been in physical contact with during shelter in place. No strangers or random people will be in the room with your group.

So, what are the best escape rooms in Monterey County? Well, it depends on what you’re looking for. Each escape room location has its own games, so if you prefer a murder mystery or a bank heist or something a little more far out, such as a plunge down the rabbit hole of “Alice in Wonderland,” there’s an escape room for you.

If you ask us, every escape room in Monterey County is the best, especially if you’re in the middle of an escape room experience and having the time of your life! For the safety of players and employees, games will be spread out to allow for extra cleaning. These restrictions will be followed until Monterey County lifts the shelter-in-place orders.

Here are the three escape rooms in our county, what rooms they have, when you can start booking and how to reach them.

Monterey has two escape rooms to choose from — Escape Room 831 on Lighthouse Avenue in New Monterey and Exodus Escape Room on Cannery Row — founded by entrepreneurs Christina and Barrie Riddoch of Monterey.

Escape Room 831

Escape Room 831 has four rooms: Alice’s Dream based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”; RabaBank gets you into the bank, you have to gather the loot; Time Machine, where you have to save the world; Spellbound gives you the chance to break the curse. Note: Spellbound is down for a little bit while we add some new puzzles to the game.
